Nihonary is published and operated by Minh Thu Nguyen, an individual developer (“the Developer,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). Jolous is the family domain used for support email and is not identified here as a separate legal entity. This policy applies to the Nihonary iOS and iPadOS app with bundle identifier com.jolous.nihonary and to the app website at app.nihonary.com.
Information stored on your device
Nihonary stores completed lesson pages, saved-word identifiers, activity dates, recent lesson position, seen context cards, lesson preferences, advertising consent state, purchase-related entitlement state, and rewarded-ad Review unlocks on your device. This information is used to provide app features.
You can reset page progress or delete learning data through Settings. Deleting the app normally removes device-only information, but it does not by itself delete learning data previously synced to your private iCloud account.
Optional iCloud sync
iCloud sync is optional and off by default. When enabled, Nihonary uses Apple’s iCloud key-value store to sync completed pages, saved-word identifiers, activity dates, recent lesson position, seen context cards, and lesson preferences across devices signed in to the same Apple Account.
Rewarded-ad Review unlocks remain device-only and must be earned again on another device unless Remove Ads has been purchased. Apple operates iCloud under Apple’s privacy terms. The Developer does not operate a Nihonary account system or receive a readable copy of your private iCloud learning payload.
Settings provides controls to disable sync and to delete learning data from the current device and iCloud. Cloud deletion reaches other connected devices according to Apple’s delivery timing.
Advertising
Nihonary uses Google AdMob. Chapters 4–40 may show one interstitial advertisement before chapter entry. A learner may also choose to watch a rewarded advertisement to unlock a chapter Review. Chapters 1–3 have no chapter-entry interstitial, and ads do not appear inside manga pages. The one-time Remove Ads purchase removes chapter-entry ads and unlocks all Reviews.
Depending on your region, consent choices, device settings, and Google’s configuration, Google may process:
- an IP address, which can indicate an approximate location;
- device, app-bounded, or advertising identifiers;
- advertising data, including ads shown;
- app and ad interactions, including launches, taps, and video views; and
- crash, diagnostic, and performance information.
Google may use this information to deliver and measure ads, prevent fraud, provide advertising-related analytics, and operate or improve its services. Depending on region and privacy choices, ads may be personalized, non-personalized, limited, or technical. Nihonary presents or respects advertising choices where required and provides an Ad privacy choices control when Google requires one.
The current version of Nihonary does not request App Tracking Transparency permission or access the advertising identifier for cross-app tracking. Its App Store privacy responses therefore state that the disclosed AdMob data is not used for tracking as Apple defines that term. If the advertising implementation changes, these disclosures and this policy will be updated before release.

Purchases
Remove Ads is a one-time, non-consumable in-app purchase processed by Apple. Nihonary reads a verified StoreKit entitlement to remove chapter-entry ads, unlock Reviews, and restore the purchase. The Developer does not receive your payment-card details. Apple handles billing, refunds, transaction records, and App Store account information under Apple’s terms and privacy policy.
Lesson content and audio
Lesson text, artwork, and audio are bundled with the app and can be used offline after access is available. Nihonary’s lesson voices are AI-generated, and artificial-intelligence tools may assist in creating or refining lesson text and artwork. Playing bundled lesson content does not send it to the Developer for live generation.
Support messages
If you email support@jolous.com, the Developer receives your email address, message, and any information you choose to include. That information is used to answer and resolve the request and is kept only as long as reasonably necessary for support, security, dispute resolution, or legal obligations. Do not include sensitive information that is not needed to resolve the issue.
No Nihonary account or data sale
Nihonary does not require a developer-operated account or custom learning-profile server. The Developer does not sell your personal information. Google may process advertising information and Apple separately processes App Store, StoreKit, and iCloud information as described above.
Retention, deletion, and choices
- Device-only learning information remains until it is reset, deleted through Settings, or removed with the app.
- Synced learning information may remain in your Apple iCloud account until deleted through Nihonary or Apple’s controls.
- Advertising information is retained by Google according to its services, consent choices, and privacy policy.
- Support correspondence is retained only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described above.
You may contact support@jolous.com for privacy help. Because Nihonary has no developer-operated account and the Developer cannot directly identify device-only or private iCloud records, some requests may need to be completed through Apple or Google controls.
Children
Nihonary is a general-audience language-learning app and is not directed specifically to children. The Developer does not knowingly request names, email addresses, or other direct identifiers from children in the app. If you believe a child has sent personal information in a support request, contact us so it can be reviewed and deleted when appropriate.
International processing and security
Apple and Google may process information in countries other than your own using safeguards described in their policies. Nihonary minimizes developer-controlled information by keeping learning data local by default and using Apple’s protected services for purchases and optional sync. No storage or transmission method is completely secure, but the Developer limits the information handled and uses platform security features.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of personal information controlled by the Developer. Contact support@jolous.com to make a request. You may also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when Nihonary features, third-party services, or legal requirements change. The revised date will appear at the top, and material changes will be communicated through the app or store listing when appropriate.
